About Open Work Review
Our Vision
Open Work Review focuses on new and recent literature from small presses, work which asks the reader to be more than a consumer of packaged content, to take seriously an encounter with a work of literature and be a co-creator of meaning.
In the writing we find most interesting, openness is a quality of vulnerability — to multiple readings, understandings, positionings, meanings -- and a refusal to assert or impose a single interpretation as authoritative, as the only one.
Our Publication
We publish book reviews, review essays, and author interviews in a print journal several times a year, distributed for free to a curated list of small presses, independent bookstores, and MFA programs, as well as to individual subscribers. Selected excerpts are also published online and delivered via Substack.
Our Practices
We solicit materials directly from contributors, and are also open to submissions that meet our guidelines (coming soon).
All contributors are paid.
